Albugo spp.

White rust in vegetable crops is a plant disease caused by the Albugo fungal pathogen. Symptoms of white rust caused by Albugo usually consist of yellow lesions on the top surface of the leaf and white pustules on the underside of the leaf. The pathogen is spread by wind, water and insects. Management includes the use of resistant cultivars, good irrigation practices, crop rotation, sanitary facilities and chemical fungicides. White rust is a major economic disease that can lead to severe crop losses if it is not controlled effectively. In a few crops, development of white rust can be slowed by seed treatment.
